my emt cert lapsed 2 months ago and i am getting ready to retake the skills and written exam to renew in california. however, my plan is to leave for the gulf coast to do some emt work there very soon. my question is, do i have to renew my california emt or i can i just go ahead and take the national registry? and if so, what are the prerequisites? thanks.
my apologies, this question is cross posted to a few other ems tribes.

Re: nremt question
Wed, September 28, 2005 - 10:12 AMI'm not sure I understand entirely. You're lapsed but within the time period to retake the exams and get your cert renewal, right? That's for California, I'm assuming.
But you're headed for the southeast to work and want to know if you need your nremt cert? Have you had your nremt cert before? If so, how long? That's a good question for the folks at the nremt. I'd give them a call.

Re: nremt question
Wed, September 28, 2005 - 10:34 AMin regards to your first question, yes. i understand that if your cert hasn't lapsed for more than 6 months you are only responsible for fulfilling 24 hours of credit and taking the skills/written exams.
i assumed i needed my nremt cert if i plan on traveling between states and working (louisiana, florida, etc). what i would like to know is whether or not i need to renew my california cert before i can even taken the national registry. i haven't been national registry before. -

Re: nremt question
Wed, September 28, 2005 - 12:58 PMI don't believe that the NREMT cares about your state cert. You will have to go through the NREMT cert process...which might be identical and tied to your cali cert. -

Re: nremt question
Thu, September 29, 2005 - 1:56 PMwell i can say this for the guf..Alabama and Mississippi both require NREMT at any level . Louisiana I think but I am not positive can take an out of state cert for reciprocity.
